Renvyle to Ennis via Cliffs of Moher

Today we had to say goodby to Castlehouse B&B and Connemara, driving down the Wild Atlantic Way towards Ennis, where we would spend our night.

The beautiful view in the morning didnt make leaving any easier, but we got started right after breakfast anyways. First we drove through Clifden, where we had been before, and then further south. Even though we were driving the whole time we hardly seemed to make way though. That was partly due to many short breaks for taking pictures, but even more than that due to the tiny winding roads that summed up to many more miles than the national roads and highways would have.

We ended up making it to Galway at about 2pm, and realized that we really had to get going - because the one stop we really had planned for was still about two hours of driving away. And of course that stop are the famous Cliffs of Moher.

So after Galway we sped up a little, skipped some small roads of the Wild Atlantic Way and stopped less often for photo opportunities, but there were a few we couldn't resist: for example the "Black Head", part of "The Burren".

The Cliffs of Moher

The day had been rainy on and off, but overall OK weather. When we approached Cliffs of Moher, we had brilliant sunshine though. The Cliffs really were impressive. The vertical drop and the sheer rock as well as the crashing waves down at the bottom were breathtaking. It just somehow makes you realize how small and insignificant you are - and I do not mean that in a bad way at all.

At the same time though I felt sad and sorry for nature, and even a bit embarrassed about being a tourist there, because many people don't behave so well up there. There was quite a lot of trash and lots of people left the (admittedly very muddy and hardly usable) paths, so most of the grass on top of the cliffs was gone and left way to raw dirt.

After the Cliffs of Moher we drove pretty straight to Ennis to check in to our B&B, called "Stonehaven B&B". It was once again a very nice place, clean and tidy, and a great host. The location was pretty good and fairly close to the town center.
